William D. Hinz, II is the Founder of Salpointe Capital Management. He is a 36-year entrepreneur whose career spans banking, real estate development, specialty finance, and, most recently, AI-driven trading systems.
Banking
Mr. Hinz founded three de novo banks over a 12-year period: Sunrise Bank of Arizona (1998), Sunrise Bank of Albuquerque (1999), and Sunrise Bank of San Diego (2001), serving as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman across the platform. He grew Sunrise Capital Corporation to over $400 million in assets and sold the holding company to Capitol Bancorp Ltd in 2003. He subsequently founded and led Western National Bank (2005–2010), growing it to over $250 million in assets in under four years. His prior banking roles included Senior Vice President and Head of Small Business Lending at Bank of Arizona, Arizona's number-one SBA lending platform, which was sold to Wells Fargo in 1998.
Crown Rock Ventures
Through Crown Rock Ventures, LLC, founded in 2010, Mr. Hinz has led multiple real estate, resort, and private business ventures. The most significant of these was the acquisition and complete redevelopment of CopperWynd Resort into ADERO Scottsdale Resort, Autograph Collection by Marriott — a 25-year Marriott flag that he personally negotiated and which opened on time and on budget in October 2020.
AI Architecture
Over the last four years, Mr. Hinz has researched and developed the proprietary AI architecture that underpins Salpointe Capital Management. The work was developed independently, using AI-assisted development tools including the Claude API from Anthropic, PBC.
Education and Civic Life
Mr. Hinz holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University (1988). He is a Life Member of the Scottsdale Charros and serves on the board of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, where he chairs the Small Business Committee, and the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce, of which he is a past Chairman. He was named to the Phoenix Business Journal 40 Under 40 and is a recipient of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce IMPACT Award (2009) and the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce Hospitality Business of the Year Award (2017). He is a member of YPO (Young Presidents' Organization) and EO (Entrepreneurs' Organization).
